  1. There was a restricted choice situation in the play. East cashes dummy's hA and the hQ falls. Now it is correct to come to hand and run the hT. This wins whenever the honour was singleton in north. Superficially it seems that north could have hQ or hQJ and the odds before the hand is played is slightly in favour of hQJ. However in the play if you have hQ you have to play the queen of course but if you have hQJ you have a choice so only roughly half of the time, give or take a bit, will you see the queen. Therefore as Terrence Reese said there is a presumption that north's choice was restricted, therefore play for the singleton honour. It turns out when you do the mathematics that the second round finesse is nearly two to one on.
