probably precision? At our table the bidding went p p 1S 1NT; p p 2H p; 2S 3c 3h ap North is displaying a strong hand but concerned that South may have given false preference at 2S holding two spades and 3 hearts or similar. South should convert 3H to 3S as North could be longer spades (6=5)
Yes north south were playing Precision. Another bad hand for Precision. In standard north can open 1S and east will overcall 1NT and then north has the luxury of bidding a second suit. Here having opened 1C north only got to bid one suit and it was the worst one. But you can't really afford to bid hearts as there might be subsequent bidding and you certainly want to compete to at least 3H by offering your second suit.
The 1NT is a little non-standard. Normally with a strong hand and balanced over 1C you pass and hope they will get into trouble. Most pairs don't even play a natural 1NT overcall.
what is the meaning of the 1cbid or is this an error
