  1. At our table the bidding went: p 2H - x - xx - 3c - p - p - x with catastrophic results for NS

  2. Wow a nice reward for the weak two opening. I wouldn't open this 2H at IMPs - bad hand, bad suit, bad shape and I am in second seat so there is only one opponent to get. On the other hand I certainly wouldn't criticise partner for opening, especially not a partner where we did not have strong agreements as to style.

Its certainly hard to argue with this success.

North's double is marginal with bad shape and half the points in hearts albeit certain tricks. Nevertheless you would rather hand another AK that might be promoting tricks for partner's minor honours than this AK that only take two tricks. Having said that many would double.

  3. I agree that West's hand is pretty bad and that it could end in tears, but I reckoned there were more good things that could happen than bad ones. If partner has some hearts he can tell pretty well upto what level to compete (law of total tricks). If the contract is NS then their bidding space is constricted, If North is tempted to stick his oar in, and East has a shortage in hearts but lots of points then he can whack NS, and (bless him) that's exactly what he did.
