  1. 2C followed by 4C shows specifically 4=2=2=5 shape and 4NT shows 17-18hcp invite. Unfortunately pard gave responses to a different system.

Opening leader asked about South's shape and was told 3=5=3=2 shape and 13-14hcp. However he didn't ask about North's bids. If he had he would have known that spades were 4-3, and thus a spade lead was not a good idea.
In the absence of any information a spade lead may be reasonable but which spade? Here pard has a likely 6hcp vs oppo's 32hcp, thus oppo are quite likely to hold all outstanding spade honours. But what about the S9? Pard could have it and it would make no difference whether u lead the J or 9. However if oppo hold it and have one hand has 4 spades then it will cost a trick leading low. Leading the J will cost a trick only when there is H9x or HH9x in dummy. How likely is it that oppo have the 9? Its not actually 2oppo vs 1 pard, as oppo hands contains heaps of high cards. With 32HCP the number of high cards should be ~ 13, thus spot crds should be ~13 also. Pard is likely to have 2 picture cards, so 11 spot cards, so oppo are mildly in favour of holding the 9. DDA will be done

  2. 6S is an easy make, but 6NT superficially looks like the low spade is the only lead which allows it to make, but DDA says otherwise. I see 11 tricks, where's the 12th?

  3. DDA indicates there is no advantage to the SJ vs Sx. However the Dx is considerably superior (by ~0.25 av tricks) to either spades or others. This assumes North is 4=2=2=5 shape and South is <4 spades, 4-5 hearts, <3 clubs.

  4. The 12th trick is a squeeze. There are probably various ways to play. But a straight forward line is take a diamond finesse losing. Then west is squeezed in spades and diamonds.
