Should West bid more over 4♣, if so what? East has shown a limited hand of 8-10 points (not necessarily hcp), and it looks like with the 4♣ east has at best a singleton. But that unprotected ♠Q doesn't look good, albeit some of pards values must be in spades.
Should South bid 5C at first opportunity instead of a belated 4C.? If NS use the rule of 3/2 then North should have a 7 loser hand and 7 clubs (north has taken a liberty here) with no 4 card major. and at most 9 total losers so not much more than AQ or AK in HCP. It should be clear to south with a doubleton heart to that EW have a probable vulnerable heart game. With a 8.5 loser hand this indicates NS should be able to make 2 to 3 clubs (18-15.5 =2.5) and so indicating an immediate 'safe' 5 level sacrifice at the favorable vulnerability.
While EW will still probably find 5H this puts a lot more pressure on them both to make correct bid and for declarer to play than a belated 4C bid.
I agree, perhaps even bid 3S enroute just in case there is a 4S sac? Don't like belated raises of pre-empts - just encourages the big stick to come out when oppo have shared info.
It would be a more risky intermediate bid but could a psyche bid of 3H with a plan to escape to 4C if doubled be worth considering here by south? 7 light undoubled for 350 would be an even better score than 5Cx 3 light if west passes. If west instead overcalls 3NT then bidding 4C might be allowed to play doubled for 2 light and 300. It would certainly be harder for EW to find a 5H bid if bidding gets to 5C.
3H appears to be forcing so unfortunately partner will spoil the party even if west passes. With xxx hearts partner will raise to 4H. West will X and u escape to 5CX. Psyche is now exposed. U will get reported to the director by grumpy guy who demands dr does such and such to you in a very loud annoyed voice- at least that is what happened to me!

ReplyDeleteYou are assuming that east has some values. I don't think the auction guarantees that.
DeleteTrue, for some reason I was thinking it was a 2 level X, with lebenshol 2nt applying
