I agree with those comments. A new suit at the three level on this sort of auction shows enough for game. Since partner is showing around 10+ that means you need about 15+ for 3C.
The problem for east is that there is no fit - except a possible difficult to find 5=3 diamond fit. So maybe pessimism is called for.
3C by west establishes a GF, yet they have a minimum opener. After 3C east should do more as should be thinking slam is in the wind.
