South X is pretty aggressive as forcing to 3level, but at MPs probably OK as realises North may struggle to balance if 2S is passed round to him as he is likely to have a few spades. North did not bid on to 4H as South is a passed hand and game looks remote with the AS counting for one trick but is a "poor" Ace as pard almost certainly has second round control of spades and it does not help to set up a side suit
Some say the player with shortage needs to act. Acting here is sometimes called pre-balancing. You are anticipating the auction getting passed back to partner in 2S and partner might not have a clear action with a suit and some length in spades. Therefore you have additional pressure to act in the live auction.
