    west 3s seems a little odd. Has shown a 3=4=1=5 shape or similar

    This is where it is nice to be able to bid 3C forcing from the east seat - show your fit and values at a nice convenient level.

    Without that agreement I might bid 3NT with the east hand rather than 3D.
