With a solid 8 card suit south shouldnt go above 3 NT
It is not completely clear to not go past 3NT. With not much in the majors it could well be reasonable to go beyond 3NT.
ReplyDeleteWest's double is optimistic and obviously EW were unsure about their methods although they were in trouble whatever happened after the double.
The alternatives to 4D are a gambling 3NT, which I think is a poor convention - you wrong side the NTs, or just open 1D.
