North south were way overboard here. Someone needed to double or bid 4S. I vote east bidding 5S but I am biased as I was west. Alternatively east should bid something else rather than the jump to 4S to consult partner - a cue-raise or a splinter. West of course with a minimum opening is going to be reluctant to push the five level.
Its kinda hard to bid 5S to make when u have been doubled for penalties at the 4 level though. Don't see why north pulled the X anyhow, seems to have a good 2H overcall which describes the hand well.
