  1. At another table: p 1h p 2c p 3d p 3nt p 4c p 4nt ap
Query: 3d is probably the strict ACOL bid, but 2D is forcing over the 2 level response so 3D seems to take up a lot of room unnecessarily. Perhaps 2NT is the best bid, demonstrates 15+, establishes a GF, and shows balancish shape, in addition here you are protecting to two doubleton honours.

    3 ♦ Strong hand GF
4 ♣ Don’t much care for either of your suits but I have a strong club suit as well
4 ♠ Since you ask, I have two aces partner
4NT Whoa, I think we are going off the rails here, let’s just stop while we can
6NT I accept your invitation to the NT slam since I have a powerful hand

Partner, quite understandably, didn’t find the killer lead of a heart. Lucky top board for EW.

    1. East doesn't really have a powerful hand. 3D already showed a game force so 19 and 2=5=4=2 is unremarkable for the previous bidding.

I recall once leading a heart in a similar situation. I caught partner with the queen and a side ace but she did not know to play a heart back when in with her ace.

  3. LOL. Perhaps we should have an annual prize for the worst bid but made contract?

  4. I have played that a jump in the fourth suit is natural and game going. So 1H 2C; 2D 3S could show the west hand and thereafter EW have a good chance to get to 6C.
