  1. Is there a case for upgrading solid 5 card suits? After all, each trick averages out at 3.25hcp(40/13), so 5 tricks should be ~16hcp equivalent.

    1. I would upgrade from 22 into 23+ but not from 21 into 23+.

  2. While 6nt is a good contract it appears bidding directly to 6nt misses the very good 7c contract.

    ### Ask other kings
    #### 2 kings

East finds east with 3 card club support and doubleton heart and can count 13 tricks in clubs on either a heart ruff or if diamonds break 3 -3. On actual cards the presence of the j diam guarantees the contract.

  3. At our table I opened 2NT (19-21 balanced) and partner is in charge and not even thinking of the grand. If however I upgrade my hand in view of the running club suit then it starts:

1C - 2NT where the 2NT response shows 14+ balanced. I am now very interested in the grand slam and once I find we have all the aces and kings I can guarantee 12 tricks and know that the 13th depends at worst on the heart finisse.
