  1. Under the system agreement 3♦ would be a force by west instead of 2♠ (which is 4th suit GF). West is interested in slam after the reverse, but worried about the spade situation. 2NT shows a stop in spades, so reasonable to expect A or K. After having asked pard to bid NT if he has a stopper and then taking him out into a suit must show a strong hand. 3♥ is a cue and 4♦ denies a spade control and the AK of clubs (don't cue shortage of pard's suits). East then decided to stop the fancy stuff and bid 6♦!, which is a superior contract to 6NT at the other table which is very thin but makes as the cards lie.
